Comparison of Catherine Barkley and Helen Ferguson:

Catherine seems to have more of a personality. She is unlike most women, in that she can read Henry and see that this is initially more of a game to him. Henry is immediately drawn to Catherine when he arrives, for she has more of a mysterious nature. She also doesn’t want to get married, and even Henry identifies this as every woman’s dream, so it comes as a shock to him.

Helen is quieter. She seems to be more behind the scenes, and can is helping Henry and Catherine in their relationship. For example, she aids Henry and Catherine in passing notes while Henry is sick in the hospital and Catherine is working.

They are somewhat similar though, because they are best friends. They are able to balance each other out and work together to make each other happy.
